Many people have vivid memories of those few times in elementary school when the weather was not conducive to outdoor recess. My mind always goes to that scene in The Cat in the Hat when the children are staring out the window watching the rain and lamenting their confinement indoors.
The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold, wet day
But I also remember that those days when we had indoor recess, we played games as a group. My favorite was 7-Up in which the instructions were summed up in the chant you did at the beginning of every round: “heads down, thumbs up, time to play 7-Up.” We also played a lot of Hang Man, as I recall. Not nearly as nerve-wracking as Duck Duck Goose, at which I was terrible and full of anxiety hoping no one would pick me to run because I would inevitably get into the mush pot, and there I’d stay.
So it hopefully brought back some fun memories for you when the Putnam City Schools Foundation announced that we would be hosting a trivia tournament and game night affectionately called Indoor Recess. I anticipate this to be a very fun night, in part because of the people there, and in part because it’s at the lovely Waters Edge Winery. We will have rounds of trivia, of course, but we will also have fun games between the rounds to help you beef up your score if trivia isn’t really your thing. The best part is that our guests are helping to raise money for an urgent need in our state, public education.
As I write this, we have three team spots open, so if you check out our event website you’ll find out more information and hopefully beat others to register for our last spots. Come join in the fun!
