The Care Share program was established 27 years ago by former Putnam
City counselor Penny Poe. She saw a need in Putnam City and decided to
do something about it by creating a program to help families in need.
Throughout the school year this program provides new shoes and new and
used coats to students who cannot otherwise afford them. Care Share has
also taken on the role of Santa during the holidays, ensuring that no
child goes without a gift to unwrap. When this program was started in 1982, 40 families (150 students) were helped. Last year, Care Share serviced 486 families (1,394 students). Every school in our district has received Care Share help.
“We are helping children hold onto their hopes.”
- Penny Poe, Founder of Care Share
